Plot Summary of Joyful Noise Movie 

The film is set in Pacashau, Georgia, where hard times have fallen on the town. The townspeople have faith that the Divinity Church Choir will lift their spirits by winning a national competition. However, the choir's two leading ladies, Vi Rose (played by Queen Latifah) and G.G. (played by Dolly Parton), have different ideas about the choir's musical style. Vi Rose believes in a traditional approach, while G.G. thinks that sticking to the tried-and-true means the music becomes tired-and-old.

Reception and Awards

'Joyful Noise' received mixed reviews from critics. Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly described the film's musical numbers as catchy, rollicking, and soulful. Rex Reed of The New York Observer stated that the film is not high art but will leave viewers smiling to the beat. The film won the 2012 Inspirational Country Music Awards' Faith, Family, & Country Movie of the Year.

The movie grossed $31.2 million against a $25 million production budget. It was released in theaters on January 13, 2012, and was later released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 1, 2012.
